It is predicted to have some terrible weather this weekend, so getting prepared for it is crucial. A few tips for your water include: Locating your main shut off valve at your home (not at the meter), shutting off all outside hydrants and wrapping them in something as simple as a towel, locating any exposed pipes inside or outside and finding a safe heat source to protect them, slightly dripping inside faucets (motion in the lines assists in friction, lowering the risk of pipes freezing), un-hook and drain all outdoor hoses and cover any water hose bibs, keep your kitchen and bathroom cabinets open or cracked, and overall staying alert of your home and its level of needs during these crazy weather outbursts.
Also, members with Freeze Misers, as there is absolutely nothing wrong with having these because they serve a great purpose. Please keep in mind that over a couple of years of observation on the billing/monitoring end, during these winter moments it does put an increase in your water usage and will act or appear as a “leak”. Dripping of your inside faucets will appear as a leak as well, but it is crucial in prevention. This is just a statement of warning in case you notice an increase in any usages you are keeping track of.
I have included a link from Oklahoma.gov/Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management, that includes some really great tips for all preparations for winter weather.
